Emmanuelle Passegue (University of California, San Francisco) has recently published results of a study of the bone marrow niche. Her focus has been on the osteoblastic lineage cell derivatives. In this study they show that leukemic myeloid cells stimulate stromal cells, causing them to overproduce functionally altered osteoblastic cells, which then accumulate in the bone marrow as inflammatory myelofibrotic cells.

Dr. Passegue has recently been approved for funding through the MF Challenge. Her project will include examination of the bone marrow niche of MPN cells with a focus on how to prevent myelofibrosis.
